The Island girls go East

Island hoppers!

Today we drove to Digby, then we decided to go island hopping! I know, just how does someone go island hopping in Nova Scotia? Well, i will tell you..... there is no Foxy's and no Soggy dollar bar!

 So then we drove to the very neck of Nova Scotia. Wow, the water was so blue, the people were so wonderful (as most Nova Scotians are) and you could see they had a very simpler way of life. To get to the neck you had to drive onto a ferry, which was so cool!

 

So we took the Petite Princess to Long Island, Nova Scotia.

 

Then we drove onto the "Joe Casey" and sailed over to Briar Island!

   

   

 

   

This was the extent of our island hopping, when we got here we decided this was not the place to be! NO McDonalds??? In fact they had nothing! Not even a grocery store! arghhhh....So here we go...hopping back through the islands to get food!

Nova Scotia Lobster and shadows on the beach!

Today was a very educational kind of day! Kailey and i did a jeep run to a few wharfs where we talked to some lobster trappers! They were very willing to share there experiences and way of life with us. We learned that they trap for lobster from november to may! And it can take anywhere from 1 day to a week to actually trap one! and they have so many traps out there that are theirs!

   This wharf was at the Port Medway lighthouse, so of course we needed to take a picture of the lighthouse!

  No matter where we travel through this province we keep getting drawn to the beach!

 

 I'm so glad Kailey and I got a few pictures together!!!

More Lobster???

We stopped at another wharf and the guys there showed us the loster bait they put in the traps, then they showed us their catch for the day!!!! WOW! I have never seen so much lobster! They had about 5 crates of lobster and each crate weighed 100 pounds each!

 

   

Throughout the day, we sure learned allot about lobster trapping!

Part 2 of yesterday

Yesterday was such a fun filled day and we did so much and saw so many places that i decided that i better do a part one and two! So this is the second half of our day with "Jimi the tour guide"!

Unfortunately we were not able to actually walk into the caves as they were frozen with ice. But i was glad to see them in the winter, they are so beautiful with the ice. I guess i will just have to come back in the summer! 

 

 

    

 

Such a pretty place!

Did not do much today except take a lot of scenery pictures, i took the lighthouse route and ran into some very interesting places! First stop....Bridgewaters trash purchase....(middle ship)

  HMCS Fraser (DDH 233) is a St. Laurent- class destroyerthat served in the Royal Canadian Navy and later the Canadian Forces from 1957-1994. Fraser is the last survivor of the St. Laurent-class destroyer which were the first Canadian designed and built warships. After an unsuccessful and controversial attempt to become a naval museum, the destroyer was reclaimed by the Canadian military in 2009 and her eventual fate is uncertain.

 

 

 

 

 

 

   

   

Cinnamon hits the beach!

Ever since i got Cinnamon i have wanted a picture of her on the beach! I could never find a beach in Ontario that allows you to drive your car on it. Yea, Ontario is a pretty uptight province! So today i went for a drive on the lighthouse route in Nova Scotia and ran smack in to this beautiful beach! I was happy to drive Cinnamon on the beach and she was happy to finally get her tires wet in the sand!

Who the heck is Peggy????

  According to legend, Peggy's Cove was named after the only survivor of a schooner that ran aground and sank in 1800... a woman named Margaret. Local folk called her "Peggy" and her home came to be known as Peggy's Cove. The  lighthouse was built in 1868.

 So that was our day playing at Peggy's cove! And the kids NEVER tire of playing at this place!

 

Then dinner at Swiss chalet! I seriously think this is the only restaurant they have in Bridgewater!!!!

 

  

The wait is over.................

We got up this morning, went for breakfast, went shopping and it just about drove Kailey CRAZY waiting for her cousin to get out of school so they could finally be together! I took this cool pic on the way to Kenzie's house!

The LaHave River

 

Driving along the road i realized there was this beautiful river going right along beside me. I know for those that live here don't see it as a beautiful river because they see it everyday! Kind of like me seeing Niagara falls all the time, i don't see the beauty in it!

 

   

While i was at the river taking pictures the *$%@ snow started AGAIN! Ok, this is not paradise!!!

 

And yes, i take lots of pictures of my Jeep Cinnamon! It's a jeep thing......

  

   

Thank goodness for hotels with indoor pools! Kenzie spent the night at our hotel with us, man can these girls talk, laugh, talk, laugh!

 

The longest state verses the longest province.....

My goodness, does the state of Maine ever end????? We started driving at 10:00 am and after miles and miles and miles (you get the idea) we drove some more miles! We were happy to look to the east of us and see this beautiful mountain! Oh oh and there ahead we see a tourist drive  to get a better view of the mountain! Ummm, it's closed! Not surprised, just ...what a bummer! So what were we to do but drive until we found a good side of the road view! Just beautiful!!!!!

Katahdin Mountain

 

This celebrated mountain, the greatest elevation in the state,its height to be 5,300 feet above the level of the sea. The Indians had a notion that this mountain was the abode of supernatural beings. It is steep and rugged, and stands in almost solitary grandeur. It may be seen in a clear day from Bangor.

The Hartland bridge

Those that know me and know my love and fascination for covered bridges can just imagine my excitement when i landed near this baby!!!! woohoo! Kailey was not as thrilled as i was, but someday she will remember we went there and saw this!

Oh, this is what Kailey did as i investigated the bridge!  

 

Ok, this bridge was 20 minutes from the USA border which we crossed at about 3:00 pm...so we head for Nova Scotia!!! OMG can this be the longest province in the country???? It took us 10 hours to get from the Maine border to Bridgewater, Nova Scotia. The roads are very dark and you always have that fear of a deer or a moose jumping out in front of your car. 

At about 10:00 pm, we decided to stop at Tim Hortons to get a sandwich, but our luck...that had no bagels or bread to make a sandwich. arghhhh But!!! If we needed a cop, there were 6 cars and 6 cops sitting in Tim Hortons! Canadians will get that joke!

But we did get a picture of this beautiful moon!

 

Finally!!!!! We arrive in Nova Scotia and arrive in Bridgewater at 11:30 island time, 12:30 maritime time, and after all these time changes OMG, i still don't know what time it really is!!!!

 

 

 

13 hours of driving....we were very happy to reach our hotel at whatever time it was! LOL
